Dr. Carla Emery-Culberson is a twenty-five year practicing podiatric physician in Austin Texas. Her practice serves children and adults in need of assistance for podiatric medical conditions and surgery.
She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She integrated and graduated from Northwest Classen High School before receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Oklahoma State University. After teaching for 3 years at Jarmon Junior High in Midwest City, Oklahoma, Carla entered medical school at a private medical facility, the California College of Podiatric Medicine and graduated in 1981. She was the first podiatric resident at the VA Medical Center in Waco, Texas as well as the first woman podiatrist in Central Texas entering private practice in April 1983. Dr. Emery received a Masters Degree in Public Health in May 2004 from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Emery is a diplomat of the American Board of Lower Extremity Surgeons in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.
Among the numerous organizations and memberships are American Podiatric Medical Association, Texas Podiatric Medical Association, and Travis County Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Emery served as president of the county society for five years and is the recipient of the 1988 Young Practitioner of the Year Award from the TPMA. She has served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Capitol City AA Chamber of Commerce, Ballet Austin, Leadership Enrichment Arts Program (LEAP) and a former member of Executive Women International.
Dr. Emery is affiliated with the major hospitals and rehabilitation systems in the Austin area.
She is married to her soul mate, Willy Culberson, Director of Aviation for Austin/Travis County Emergency Medical Services. They have two adult children, Tamara and Patrick, and one grandson.
